I have been interested in Psychology for a good few years now. There are many different fields of study that go more in-depth to certain areas that have to do with it. While I have found almost every field very interesting, there is one specific field of Psychology that has kept my attention over the past four years: Personality. This is the field that covers people's personality (obviously), their specific traits, their character, how they make decisions based on cognitive functions, whether personalities can change, and just the theories about personalities in general. According to study.com, professional personality psychologists must have a Doctoral degree in psychology in order to teach at a University or practice professional psychology privately. As for an actual job description, it says that personality psychologists "may train government officials, develop programs to improve attitudes within the workplace or analyze customer trends in business. Psychologists also maintain consultation practices within hospitals or other healthcare settings." In other words, these psychologists can get a job helping out with any company or group of people that requires teamwork. That's not to say one can't help an individual, however.
As for why this specific field of psychology is most interesting for me, well, it's quite simple. I love people, and I love to get to know who they are. Our personalities are one of the biggest things that define us, and it's so fascinating how no two people's personality is exactly the same. I love trying to solve mysteries, especially when it comes to people. I like to know why certain people make one decision, while others may make a different one. But the main reason I love learning personality is because it helps me help others. I love being there for someone and giving helpful advice and emotional support. Everyone needs support in a different way, and that depends on two things: their situation and their personality. Some people need hardcore advice from someone. Others just need someone to listen to them talk about their problem, just so they can get it out. No matter what they need, that's what I want to do. Personality, and more specifically, knowing the human heart, is what lets that happen in the best way possible.

Christian, well done. You gave me a great understanding as to why you picked personality psychology as your main branch of interest. I liked how you incorporated that you enjoy solving mysteries, because sometimes helping others come to a conclusion with a problem of theirs is like solving a mystery. Although I found the highlighted text a little more difficult to see, overall I really enjoyed what you had to say. Great job!
ReplyDeleteHey Christian, I feel the same way it has always intrigued me how two people can be so different and how we could make such different decisions. I feel like you have explained this topic excellent and I feel you gave me a better understanding on why you would want to enter this field of work. Good Job!
